Former 100-meter world-record holder Asafa Powell Marquel Lee Raiders Jersey , Jamaican teammate Sherone Simpson and their physical trainer were formally placed under criminal investigation for allegedly violating Italy's doping laws, police said yesterday.

Police were still analyzing the substances to determine if they were legal or not.
Being formally placed under investigation is a step up in the Italian justice system from someone simply "informed of the facts," which is how someone can be questioned by police. That occurred after the raid early Monday.
Both Powell and Simpson, who tested positive for the stimulant oxilofrine, train under coach Stephen Francis at the high-profile MVP Track and Field Club in Jamaica. In an interview on Jamaican radio station HITZ 92 on Monday, Francis blamed the positive tests on Xuereb.
"We are not disowning Asafa, we are just saying this relates to his personal employee. The trainer (Xuereb) has nothing to do with MVP," Francis said.
Also on Monday, discus thrower Allison Randall acknowledged she was one of the five Jamaican athletes who tested positive for a banned substance at the Jamaican championships last month, along with Powell and Simpson.
"I have not intentionally taken any banned substance. I have been vigilant with everything I consume, so I am extremely shocked and surprised by this incident," Randall said.

STOCKHOLM, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Swedish Secret Services (Sapo) are assessing the threat of a potential terror attack targeting Stockholm, after a rumor of an attack circulated on social media during the night, public television news broadcaster SVT reported Thursday.
Sapo would not comment on the actual threat but emphasized similar threats were not unusual.
"About every other day we get this kind of information," Nina Odermalm-Schei, a spokesperson for Sapo, told SVT.
"We receive about 6,000 threats a month regarding terrorism. When we get this kind of threat we find out more by gathering and assessing information to gauge the level of truth to it," she said, adding that the unusual component of this threat is that it spread in social media.
The current threat level in Sweden remains at three on a scale of one to five, where five is the most serious threat level.
"Listen to what the authorities say and be extra watchful. If you observe anything suspicious you should report it to the police," Justice Minister Morgan Johansson said.
