URWERK UR-100V Time Culture Series Explores the History of Timekeeping

The first watch of the collection is engraved with the Aztec calendar of the 15th century.

URWERK is exploring the culture and ideas of timekeeping in all eras with a new series based on its 100V.

The first watch of the UR-100V Time and Culture series is engraved with the "Sun Stone" pattern, known as "one of the most emblematic works of Aztec art", dating back to 1479, now in the collection City of Mexico's National Museum of Anthropology.

The design depicts the Aztec calendar, with the third circle representing the 20 days of the month and the fourth circle representing the 260 days of the year.

"This thread is about history, culture, our place under the stars, research and observations made around the world using the same sky above us as a source of knowledge. I'm always fascinated," said URWERK co-founder Martin Frei These unique observations, made thousands of kilometers away, gave birth to a universal language, the language of time. "So we are actually seen as a journey through time and space. For such a journey, the UR-100V, combined with indications in minutes and kilometers, proved to be the ideal vehicle. "

Engraving is carried out using milling cutters with a tip of just 0.05mm, while the ridges of the pattern are satin-brushed and the grooves are micro-blasted to accentuate the engraved relief.

Three years ago, Singapore-based watch journalist Su Jia Xian, aka SJX, approached URWERK with the idea for the collection.
