BEIJING, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese air force said Monday that its surveillance aircraft had recently conducted high-sea drills in the Yellow Sea and East China Sea to improve combat readiness and safeguard the country's "strategic interests."

The aircraft took an air route that was not previously flown to areas where they had never been, said Shen Jinke, spokesman for the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force.

The air force's fighter jets, airborne early warning aircraft and surface-to-air guided missile forces coordinated with surveillance for the training, Shen said.

The Chinese air force will conduct high-sea exercises under combat conditions on a regular basis, the spokesman said.

This is yet another car from Hyundai that will create a few waves of concern amongst established names like Ford and VW. It is a stylish, small SUV very much in the mould of the Ford Kuga, but you can bet it will be a great deal cheaper.
Hyundai has developed the ix35 in Europe, and the European UK version will be built here. Hyundai has spent three years and a not inconsiderable ?120 million developing the ix35, so it should be very much up to European standards with good built quality, high-quality materials and decent handling and performance.
Hyundai is replacing the hulky Tucson with the Tucson ix35. The Tucson ix35 has made its world debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. The new Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) from Hyundai takes design cues from the company?s new ?fluidic sculpture? design. The Hyundai Tucson ix35 has a sleek body design that contributes to enhanced aerodynamics. The new ix35 will come with front or all-wheel drive. The Hyundai ix35 will come in 4-cylinder diesel and petrol engines with its first six-speed automatic transmission. The stylish Hyundai Tucson ix35 includes stability control, brake assist, reversing camera and a panoramic sunroof. The GPS used is MIO C520.The C520 is a slim and sleek GPS car navigation system with a spacious 4.3" widescreen. Equipped with Bluetooth? connectivity, the C520 allows hands-free calling so users can stay focused on the road.
Hyundai is offering two petrol engines ? a 164 bhp 2.0-litre unit with 145lb ft of torque and CO2 emissions of 178gkm and a 138bhp 1.6-litre unit with 123lb ft of torque and CO2 emissions of 158gkm, which will be available from November 2010. When equipped with ISG stop-start, its CO2 emissions are 149 gkm. Moreover, two diesel engines are also available. A 2.0-litre unit in two states of tune is offered, one with 181bhp and 289lb ft of torque and the other with 134bhp and 231lb ft of torque. A 1.7-liter unit will be available from November 2010 and it has 113bhp and 188lb ft of torque. When equipped with the ISG, emissions are kept to 149gkm.
The new Hyundai Tucson ix35 may look good with a Britney Spears soundtrack playing in the background. It may even look good out on the road. But under the bright lights here at the Frankfurt Messe, it looks pretty much like every other compact import crossover on the market. Which is to say, attractive, but rather cookie-cutter.

The new Tucson is being offered overseas with 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engines burning either gasoline or diesel (with 166 and 184 horsepower, respectively) and driving either the front wheels or all four through a six-speed automatic slushbox. Among the latest features, Hyundai included are Downhill Brake Control and Hill-Start Assist Control, which almost makes us mistake this for a real sport-utility vehicle.
